We were up at 4am, had a quick cup of coffee and
after saying cheers to Mike drove to the airport. Within 40 minutes we had packed the trike, handed the hire car back, paid the last of the parking fees and were ready to go. The wind was quite strong but luckily it
was a tailwind. As we climbed over the hills around the city of Windhoek, I tensed as I expected some turbulence from the wind that was swirling around the hills. We hit a few bumps, so I climbed up to 7,000
ft where we settled down to an enjoyable flight.
Slowly the hills moved past us and the wide-open
areas of the Namib Desert lay ahead of us. The Namib is incredibly beautiful, so, after leaving the hills behind us we descended to 1,000ft above the ground. There was less of a tailwind, but the view more than made
up for it. It was really great to be sharing these last days of the expedition with my brother, and we chatted about all the wonderful sights that were spread out before our eyes, as we flew along.
We arrived overhead Swakopmund just as the morning
mist was starting to dissipate. Clearly Olivier wasn't at the airport yet, so we flew over town to let Graham's friends Dot and Anton know that we had arrived.
Dot arrived and we went off to Breakfast in town.
Later we returned to the airport to find Olivier, Manuella, Andre and Martine there.
In the afternoon we all went through to Walvis Bay to
visit Connie Becker. We booked into a hotel nearby for the night.
